When the snow falls in Rome

Aerial view of St. Peter's Square

While we have been having a fairly mild winter here in New England, Europe has been having a much colder, snowier winter....more like our winter last year. I read about the big snowfall in Italy this week, the biggest snowfall in 26 years.  Snow always makes things look  enchanted and magical.  I was dying to see photos of how even more fabulous Rome would look with a blanket of fresh white snow.  Here are a few of the photos I found.

The Pantheon

The Pantheon is one of the most extraordinary buildings of all time, and the domed interior is one of the spectacular spaces of all time, lit only by a single round opening, called an oculus, in the center of the ceiling.  It has always been a dream of mine to see snow falling through the oculus.  With snow such a rarity in Rome, it must surely be an amazing thing to see in person.

  1. Just found your blog via Hibernian Home - what amazing photos of Rome, it is hard to believe, I have only ever seen Rome in the sun. I am in the UK, and where I live we have not seen any snow yet.
Very interesting re:The Pantheon which I wrote about last year on a post called Domes.
