House of Windsor

Recently a colleague and I were scouring the internet for kitchen ideas for a project we are doing here in Connecticut.  We came across this super chic gray kitchen designed by Windsor Smith for the Veranda House of Windsor showhouse in L.A.  I love gray and am happy that it's such a popular color at the moment.  Windsor Smith and the other designers have used gray and other colors to great affect in the showhouse.  I'm ready to move in....but I'm a bit too late, because apparently Gweneth Paltrow has purchased this home.  Lucky!  I guess she's adding it to her stable of beautiful houses...including the one in the Hamptons which was published a few years ago in Elle Decor.  But that's a post for another day.

I love the stables as art studio by Kathryn Ireland.  Beautiful.

I love the fact that the house looks modest from the outside, yet the rooms feel light, bright and spacious on the inside.  Great job team!

Pitch Perfect: Mariette Himes Gomez

This stunning home on the north shore of Long Island by interior designer  Mariette Himes Gomez and the architects, Kean Williams Giambertone is as close to perfect as I can imagine.  I love the old world turn of the century elegance. And I love Himes Gomez's decorating style.  Lots of white!  White walls, white upholstery, and dark wood furniture.  Any color is soft, subtle and muted. I think this gives the spaces a feeling of elegant serenity.

These photos are from the Architectural Digest website.  More photos of this fabulous house were published in the August issue of the magazine.

All Grown Up

A few months ago I posted a blog about Ali Wentworth and George Stephanopoulos's apartment in DC, which I really loved.  I found these images not too long ago while looking at the Architectural Digest. website.  This is their New York apartment, which they had done by Michael Smith when they moved to New York. I like the color palette of this apartment very much, especially the Dining Room and the Kitchen. But I have to say I prefer the lightness and  whimsey of the DC apartment. This one definitely looks a little more grown up.  Which one do you like?

It Must Be Love: Victoria Hagan in Southport

I nearly swooned when I opened the latest issue of Architectural Digest and I saw the photos of Victoria Hagan's home in Southport, CT.  These photos are from the sneak peak Digest has on their website....but there are addition photos in the magazine, including views of the gardens and views from the house. I love her style, her color sense, and the calmness of her spaces.  This is just an appetizer, I definitely recommend checking out the other photos in the magazine.

New Dawn Roses

Most of the roses in my garden have come and gone...a few lingering blossoms are hanging on.  But the July heat pretty much signals the end of rose season.  My absolute favorite is the light pink climbing rose, New Dawn.

This bouquet in not New Dawn, but it's pretty never the less.

I think there is a "sister" rose to New Dawn, called White Dawn....I think this may be the rose above.
